The Perfect Yellow Summer Dress + How I'm Dealing With Being Homesick

I've been moved out of my parent's house for almost 2 weeks now and I think I'm handling this whole "homesick" thing pretty well. The whole entire 2 weeks before moving I cried because I have never been away from my family for more than a week. I'm such a family oriented person, so that's why I thought for sure Cameron would be kicking me out by now from all my whining and complaining.... Surprisingly, I haven't really been all that whinny.
I would be lying if I didn't say I have days were I'm a little lonely or sad. But I just think of it as, I'm so blessed to have grown up in such a tech savy era. I can always Facetime or call my family and coming back for a weekend is not something that's impossible. With only being 7 hours away, it makes the thought of going home for a visit seem a little more realistic. I wanted to share some tips on how I found to get over this dreaded homesickness:
 1.) Finding a Hobby
I've found that having a hobby is something that can really take the mind off of thinking about going home. For me I've been preoccupying myself with my blog. I've been trying to switch over to another website provider and change the layout of Daily Ellie Style. Along with just getting more involved with my website in general. I've also started a workout routine for the evenings. This has really helped me get my mind off missing home.
2.) Having a Pet
Cameron knew that when it came to bringing me to the south with him ( although I didn't go kicking and screaming) it also meant my dog, Brutus, had to tag along. Having Brutus around I think has helped me during the day with not getting so lonely while Cameron is at work. Having a little companion to watch over, play, and cuddle with makes things not so depressing.
3.) Finding some outdoor activities
There have been some days in the past 2 weeks where I have spent literally ALL day inside the apartment. Thankfully we have a lovely pool right at the complex that I can go spend some time at and we have a mall just minutes from us, which could double as dangerous for our budget. HA!  Just finding some things that involves getting out and doing something is really what has gotten my mind off of home.
4.) Makeing Dinners
When Cameron & I lived at home we would spend so much money and time going out to restaurants for dinner. I really hate to admit that because it was a bit ridiculous, but it's something that we knew had to change when we moved out. Not that we weren't making healthy choices, but  just the fact that we would eat out 3-4 times a week makes me cringe. So when we moved into our new home we decided no more eating out other than the weekends. We started a paleo diet and I think we both feel better and we're saving so much money!  Although, I'm not the best cook ever, I like to feel like I could start my own cooking show when I start throwing spices together and chopping up onions. HA! But in all honesty, making dinners has made me feel better in body & mind & wallet.
5.) Keeping things Organized + Decorating
When it comes to organization and cleanliness, I'm a queen. I vacuum twice a day, I do every dish that hits the sink (or tell Cameron to), I'm constantly picking up dog toys, I even organized my closet by color and season. Having a clean house is a must for me, I can't deal with things not being in it's place, I go cRAzY. l try to always stay on top of laundry and dishes and just general cleaning because it has kept my mind preoccupied about thinking of home. Plus finding different ways to decorate my house has become like a second job to me. Needless to say, this alone has kept me pretty busy.
6.) Put Together a Killer Outfit
Now that I have 24/7 access to all my clothes since I'm working from home, I try to put together some pieces I've never put together before (or worn before). Like these adorable cognac heels with this bright summer yellow dress that I'm sharing in today's post. When I take the time to actually go through my clothes and see what I have to play with I can create so many combos that I've never thought of before. This is probably something I enjoy doing in my free time the most.

Speaking of putting together a picture perfect outfit. I wanted to share some details for todays look. I scored this super flattering cinched waist dress from Target and paired it with these wild cognac heels from DSW. Unfortunately, I got the shoes on clearance a year ago so I can't find them anywhere. However, I've linked some similars below. I've also been really loving these big statement earrings and these gold ones are so cute! They literally go with everything! As always, you can shop this look by clicking the links below.

I hope this post helps anyone who is in the same boat as me. Leaving home for the first time can be really hard but you just gotta find things to do that you love and it will keep you from going crazy, I promise.  If you have any other tips or suggestions leave them in the comments below.

Do you sometimes feel that it's weird you still feel homesick when you don't have any place that you can technically claim as your own? Me, I feel like that most of the time. I sometimes think I don't belong in this planet. Yet, I really can't complain because if I am going to look at the bigger picture, if I can't be friends with any other human being including my mom, then maybe it's only because I would rather be friends with trees and animals.
