When it comes to my hair I'm a very picky person. I don't necessarily love trying new products or doing new things with my hair and when I do, I always do my research That' why when I moved to Huntsville, AL, one of my biggest concerns was finding a new hair stylist.. YIKES!
I do not at all consider myself a risk taker, I stick to what I know and I stay in my comfort zone at all times. That could be either be a really great thing, or a not so great thing, I'm still not sure which end of the spectrum that falls on.
But when moving to Huntsville I had to start all over with finding my groove and stepping out of my norm. One of the most concerning things was that I had find a new hairstylist, which I'm sure we all can agree can be kinda stressful. I absolutely love my hair stylist in Ohio, but making a hair appointment 7 hours away would not be an easy task. So I started the search and when this girl searches, she turns to the gram. I think for weeks my Instagram search had "#Huntvillehairstylist , #Huntsvillehair , #Alabmahairtylist" all over it. Which was cool because then the Instagram algorithm kicked in and started putting hair sponsored posts on my feed and just showing me hairstylist's Instagram posts around my area. Then BOOM that's when I found the very talented @Lynnsewilsonhair.
I was immediately drawn to her absolutely BEAUTIFUL posts. You can tell by her photos that she puts a lot of time into her work. And that's what anyone would want when it comes to a hair stylist, am I right?
I wanted to share some tips I used when searching for the perfect hairstylist for me. These may not work for everyone but these did work for me and I wanted share in case they could come in handy for anyone else.
TIP 1 - Social media posts do matter
Whether it be a hair stylist, a blogger, a contractor, a nail tech, a cook, a photographer, a boutique, or any other entrepreneur or business, they will always post their best work. As they should. I find A LOT of amazing, hard working, entrepreneurs through social media. By searching hashtags or just coming across their pages. There are so so so many amazing Instagram accounts out there and seeing their gram filled up with photographs of beautiful work makes me want to follow them. That's why when Lynnse and I connected through social media I knew I could trust her working some of her blonding magic on my hair. Her photo showed how amazing of a job she does, and seeing her in action in real life is just as (if not more) amazing.
TIP 2 - Is this someone you can talk to for hours?
I know when I go to get my hair done I can count on about a 2-3 hour sit in. I have tons of hair and I usually get color done which takes a little time to process. So I know I'll be sitting for a few hours and I am a talker. I like to chat about life and see what's going on in the community (since I work from home I like to know about all things new coming to Huntsville). I like to make sure 1. we have some things in common to chat about 2. They seem like they are cool with me being a talker. Again since social media is huge and that's how I met Lynnse, I knew she was new to the Huntsville area too and we both do a lot on social media. So we could chat about social media, and what its like moving, and all that fun stuff. She was all about making me comfortable during my appointment, she was totally cool with me being a talker and she would keep the convo going with me. But she also is okay if you like to just sit in quiet and just get pampered, she really makes it about YOU and what makes YOU comfortable. Which is something I really appreciate because there would be nothing worse than sitting in for 2 hours awkwardly.
TIP 3- Do they do what you love
This one may seem pretty obvious, but again very important. As I said at the very beginning, I stick to what I love. I always, always, always go with a baylage color style. I'll either go a little lighter, or just have the color raised so my roots don't look awful. Because I love having blonde but my roots are brown I have to do something that looks natural and well blended. So before trusting anyone with my hair I make sure that is something they can do. I have had my hair completely fried before by a horrible ombre job, luckily my girl Lorin ( in Ohio) was able to come to the rescue and save what was left. So since then I have learned to make sure whoever is about to play with my hair is skilled in baylage. I highly recommend checking before hand to make sure your stylist knows how to do what you like. I can Honestly say if you're in the Huntsville area, my girlfriend Lynnse is an expert in blonding and everything in between.
There nothing I love more than sharing boss babes on my blog. I recently did a 6 outfit series post were I shared my girl, Erin, and her absolutely amazing photography talents. Now I get the pleasure to share the extremely talented Lynnse and her absolutely amazing hair skills. I 100% recommend both these boss babes! To check out Lynnse's amazing Instagram feed, just click ( HERE ). Your instagram was dying to have her work come across your feed. It's so good!
When you make your hair appointment with Lynnse let her know Ellie sent you. She'll be so thrilled! I can't wait to see the magic she does on your hair.
